MAKE MOVEMENT
YOUR MEDICINE
STAY ACTIVE, AVOID THE SCALPEL
ABOUT UPLIFT
UpLift PT is a private physical therapy practice and patient empowerment initiative serving active and athletic populations suffering from orthopedic injuries across the Greater Charleston Area.
Accepting both cash-coverage and offering superbills for potential insurance reimbursement, we believe movement is medicine and surgery should be your last resort.
Founded by Dr. Caitin Guthrie, DPT, OCS, UpLift was inspired by frustrations with 3rd-party payor agendas and traditional therapies that cut care plans short, limited critical activity, and put the scalpel first with its painful recovery and crippling price tag.
Determined to do better, UpLift is all in on movement optimism and giving power back to our patients. Using creative solutions, comprehensive education and dynamic approaches, we work to keep you safely mobile, so you may get out of pain quickly and back to whatever moves you with confidence.

GIVING POWER BACK TO PATIENTS
What is an Orthopedic Certified Specialist and why does that distinction matter? We thought you’d never ask!
Among her many advanced certifications, UpLift Founder Caitlin is an Orthopedic Certified Specialist meaning she has been tried, tested and proven an exceptional level of training and expertise in diagnosing and treating conditions that affect the entire musculoskeletal system. Snaps!
Specifically, upon completion of her Doctorate in Physical Therapy program through MUSC, Caitlin accumulated more than 2,000 hours of direct patient care in orthopedic therapy before acing a rigorous 7+ hour exam.
To date, there are only ~20,000 Orthopedic Certified Specialists in the country with less than 400 of these elite physical therapists in South Carolina.
In summary, she’s bona-fide brawn and brains that believes movement is medicine.

THE DOCTOR IS IN
Meet Caitlin Guthrie (DPT, OCS)
Born and raised in Evanston, just outside of Chicago, Caitlin Guthrie started her pursuit of higher education at the University of Kansas graduating with her undergraduate degree in 2011.
After biding some time back in Chicago, she was accepted to the Doctorate of Physical Therapy (DPT) program at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) and was Charleston bound in a blink.
Graduating with her doctorate in 2019, Caitlin spent a couple years working with a lowcountry insurance-based outpatient orthopedic clinic. During this time she also went full-send as a CrossFit athlete dabbling in her first competitions and earning her CL-1 certification.
After accumulating more than 2,000 hours of direct patient care in orthopedic therapy, she sat for and slayed a 7+ hour exam earning her the distinction of Orthopedic Certified Specialist. She is one of fewer than 400 physical therapists with this special designation in the state of South Carolina.
Frustrated by bureaucratic red tape, insurance agencies setting the agenda and disjointed care plans that unnecessarily put people on the fast-track for surgery time and time again, she decided to strike out on her own.
In 2021, Caitlin founded UpLift PT, the private physical therapy practice and patient empowerment initiative serving active and athletic populations suffering from orthopedic injuries across the Greater Charleston Area.
On a mission to give power back to her patients, Caitlin believes movement is medicine and surgery is an absolute last resort. With an aptitude for creative solutions and problem solving - even in the face of the most unusual pain presentations - her first priority is to keep you as active as possible while ensuring you understand all your options and outcomes before the scalpel.
When Caitlin isn’t empowering her patients or helping someone get back to the sport they love, you may find her chewing on a barbell at Rhapsody Fitness or doting on her sweet furbaby, Dexter.

SEEKING SECOND OPINION
Are traditional routes pointing you towards surgery for nagging aches or an injury? Let’s talk!
There are often sources and solutions that patients are never encouraged to understand or explore before resigning to surgery.
In our experience, knowing the pros and cons, overall length of recovery and potential outcomes often lead the sufficiently educated patient to choose physical therapy alone versus painful and pricey procedures.
Before you resign to going under, let’s explore options and resources for an active path back without the scalpel. It never hurts to seek a second opinion.
